Married at the Welder : : The wedding story of Ben and Dani

Updated: May 29, 2022

Every wedding day has its own story, and each couple have their own story to tell.

Ben and Dani were no different, but theirs was unique.

Given that they were celebrating a big birthday, they decided to have a small intimate wedding at The Welder in Christchurch central city, and follow it up with a birthday bash joined by their friends where instead of turning up for a birthday, they were actually going to be joining them for their post wedding celebration/reception!

Ben and Dani would describe themselves as a very relaxed couple. Ben was entrusted with organising the photography for the day, and they were so happy with just wanting to capture the important bits of their story. And this shone through their day - from having those close to them be there as they got ready, to having an intimate ceremony of around 20 be present as they said their 'I dos'. And then they went off and relaxed as they celebrated the wedding before their surprise party.

So allow me the privilege of showing off their story.

As I was told, Ben's main job that morning was to make sure their son had a sleep. Definitely a success! About 15 minutes before I was due to go to the girls, he woke and got to show off his recently acquired walking skills, and be one of the 'boys'.

Then it was off to Dani and the girls where they got ready in a beautiful place a few minutes from their ceremony location.

Dani, just like Ben, was the picture of calm when I walked through the door! With her five bridesmaids helping, they breezed through the time in what felt like a luxurious pampering session. Dani had an exact idea of what she envisioned her own dress to look like and then had this beautiful custom dress designed and made by Pretty Things.

And with final preparations complete, it was that moment to take a deep breath, because it was time to walk down the aisle. Dani and Ben had a winter wedding, and the rain was coming down outside as they dashed to the cars.

The Welder is an incredible industrial events space perfectly suited for a bright and airy wedding. Watching Dani with an excited smile choose to walk herself down the aisle because 'she was choosing to marry Ben' was incredible to watch. Hayley, their celebrant, was friend as well as celebrant, and brought a fun and vibrant feel that captured this gorgeous couple's love for each other, and the story of how they met leading up until this day.

I love how each wedding is unique. Ben and Dani were after simple, joyful, and no fuss. They wanted to enjoy the time with their family and guests, and so even left the signing of the register till once everyone had a drink in hand, before taking a few family photos, and heading off for a late nibble before their 'birthday party'.

It is always a privilege to photograph someone's wedding day. The trust that someone puts in you to be able to tell their own story, the story of their love, their relationship, and their family. Thank you for allowing me to be involved through one of those big moments in your life.
